One of the most critical points of the coup was Kazan district of Ankara. After the citizens who had heard about the coup attempt gathered in front of the Municipality waving Turkish flags, approximately 2,000 people from Kazan flocked to the base upon learning that the helicopters and planes that bombed many locations in Ankara had taken off from the 4th Main Jet Base Command in Kazan. The putschists who opened fire on citizens approaching the base flew their aircraft at low altitudes for an extended period of time to scare off those who wanted to prevent the planes from taking off. Binali Yıldırım, who frequently made statements about the coup attempt, connected to an NTV live broadcast at approximately 03:10 a.m. and announced that all military helicopters and planes making prohibited flights over critical areas such as MIT, GNAT, Presidency and the Prime Ministry buildings would be shot down with missiles. Colonel Ahmet Tosun, who commanded the bombing of numerous locations in Ankara, also ordered the second attack on the Parliament. Pilot Hüseyin Türk dropped the bomb. After the attack, GNAT Speaker İsmail Kahraman and MPs on the General Assembly took refuge in the shelter. Calling AK Party Group Deputy Chairman and Aksaray MP İlknur İnceöz, President Erdoğan addressed the MPs sheltering in the Parliament to boost their morale. Ankara Provincial Security Directorate was attacked a second time by warplanes and helicopters three hours after the initial attack.
