An armed conflict broke out in front of the 2nd Army Command which was captured by FETO-member soldiers. When Governor Mustafa Toprak and Police Chief Ömer Turhal went to the 2nd Army Command Headquarters, the soldiers at the entrance drew their guns at them. In order to neutralize the putschists, Malatya Metropolitan Municipality dug a trench in front of the military headquarters with municipality vehicles, to prevent the coup plotters from leaving the barracks. Subsequent operations lasted for 20 hours and of the coup plotters in the 2nd Army, 7 injured soldiers were captured, and one major was killed.
