Raid on Çengelköy Police Station

A group of military students summoned from Kuleli Military High School in the name of exercise, left the school towards the police station to capture Çengelköy Police Station. Meanwhile putschist soldiers from Habibler Topkule Barracks arrived in front of Bayrampaşa Riot Police Station. The citizens who went out in the streets attempted to block the armored vehicles and tanks coming from Topkule Barracks around Esenler. Armored vehicles proceeded by riding over the citizens. 6 people were martyred. At 22:25, Atatürk Airport was captured by putschist soldiers who arrived at the region by tanks. A group of soldiers at the Anatolian side carried out a raid to takeover Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Both airports were captured by the coup plotters. The military troops from the 66th Armored Mechanized Infantry Brigade moving towards Istanbul Provincial Police Department, started to fire upon the people in the streets as they arrived at Vatan Street, at 22:30. 15 minutes before this, Provincial Police Chief Mustafa Çalışkan and his team left the police department. Çalışkan and his team set out for 15 July Martyrs’ Bridge. At 22:49, reinforcements were sent from Istanbul 2nd Armored Brigade to these points under occupation. Meanwhile, in Cizre District of Şırnak, citizens who gathered in front of the Government Office Building upon the call from mosque speakers, blocked the putschist soldiers on the bridge over the Tigris River.
