President Erdoğan, made the first statement on the evening of July 15 to the local reporters of Anadolu Agency in Marmaris. After this statement, Erdoğan gathered the journalists at the Grand Yazıcı Turban Hotel where he stayed and made a press statement. Erdoğan stated that the coup attempt was an uprising against national will and emphasized that these people would receive the appropriate punishment according to the provisions of law. Erdoğan invited the people to public squares against the attempt. This statement was instantly broadcast on social media and was not noticed by the national media in those moments. 20 minutes after this statement, Erdoğan connected to Hande Fırat’s program on CNN channel via Facetime and reacted to the military attempt and invited the people again to the public squares. After these statements, President Erdoğan left Marmaris to come to Istanbul to meet with the people taking to the streets, and landed at Dalaman by helicopter. Around the time Erdoğan called on the people to resist against the coup d’état, unity prayer was recited in all 81 provinces upon the instruction of the Directorate of Religious Affairs. After his call, Erdoğan became the target of the US-based private intelligence and research institution Stratfor. Stratfor shared the falsified “Erdoğan requested asylum from Germany” news of the American NBC Channel, on its Twitter account. 10 minutes later, Stratfor added another one to this falsified news and claimed that Germany refused this request. Shortly after the falsified news appeared in the social media, President Erdoğan’s plane landed at Dalaman Airport. During the landing of the Presidential ATA aircraft, airport cameras were interrupted. The landing of the aircraft with its lights turned off was not shot by the cameras but the moment of interruption at the cameras was recorded.
