Çengelköy was one of the districts with the most intensive conflicts on the night of July 15. Putschist soldiers raided a venue called Erbap Café behind the historical Çınarlaltı in Çengelköy, upon the command of FETO/parallel state structure member, commander Mürsel Çıkrıkçı, and took a group of citizens sitting in the venue hostage, including families with their children. The orders of Çıkrıkçı to open fire on people was recorded on audio records. Citizens set up barricades on the street to block FETO member soldiers to reach Çengelköy Sabancı Police Station, which they attempted to takeover during the uprising. Putschist soldiers captured the resistant citizens taking cover behind garbage containers.
